Wal*Mart Cult

Is it already too late?

On June 12th in Madison WI an enraged suicidal gunman shot three people at the west-side Walmart. There were two fatalities: the gunman and his ex-lover's current lover. Is this yet another Marilyn Manson induced fit or just another scorned-lover-killing-another love song? Most likely the latter since Walmart sees fit to censor such dangerous rock group bands as Poison (Open up and say,"Ahhh.") and Nirvana (Waif Me!), but it could be something else. It could be something much darker, much more sinister, and more far reaching than the banality of an everyday crime of passion.
Walmart may be attempting to take a messianic hold over the people of America. If there is a town of fifty or more people, Walmart will be there. From distribution centers across America come the mighty Walmart semis, thundering down the interstate, reveling in capitalistic corporate might, to deliver the Walmart wares to the Walmart stores. If you happen to get behind one of these semi-trailers you will see the blue one-word Walmart slogan that promises eternity to the road weary traveller.

"Always!"
  • "Always," in times of need, in times of doubt.
  • "Always," like the inexorable march from birth to death.
  • "Always," the eternal and the omnipresent all in one.
  • always

A slogan alone,of course, no matter how cryptic, does not a cult make. "Coke is it," for example could infer that Coca~Cola is the chosen one, a saviour, but nobody really wants a carbonated Jesus, now, do they? What it takes to make a cult strong is weakness in the cults' members. I don't mean physical or mental weakness, but a breaking down and rebuilding so the weakness is a reliance upon the cult, its leader, and the network of members. Walmart is the same way.
    1) Walmart moves in.
    2) Since they "Sell For Less" local small businessess fold.
    3) They conveniently have everything from pharmaceuticals to guns.
    4) The need to go elsewhere for goods diminishes and eventually vanishes.
    5) Walmart's staff becomes familiar like family.
    6) You eagerly rush to Walmart for the comaraderie and the friendly greeting.
Are you ready for the brave new Walmart world? Once in need of the friendly blue clad Walmart staff you may feel the desire to actually become one of them. Not only will you be dependent on Walmart for life's necessities, you will now need Walmart for the capital to purchase their wares as well. Once fully in the fold your new Walmart "family" will give you the garb required of the inner circle cult members. Walmart family cult garb includes the navy blue cotton/polyester blend slacks as well as the blue vest bearing Walmart's ubiquitious yellow smiley faced mascot. You are happy to be at Walmart. If you forget you are happy to be at Walmart the smiley face is there to remind you of the constant joy Walmart brings to your life. Even if you don't join the Walmart "family" you can "always" rest assured that Walmart is there for all your needs: food, clothing, shelter, sporting goods, automotive repair, but why should you need the latter when Walmart is the only place you need to be? Always be leery of any family wanting you as a member.

    always
  • Walmart has everything you need, "Always"
  • Walmart loves you, "Always"

  • Don't leave Walmart. Your programming is almost complete. Stay. Sit. Relax. In sporting goods you'll find guns and ammo. Stay. Sit. Reload. You can't walk away from a God without pain.
