| 11~16~99 Yesterday passed and and so will today with little excitement, few consequences, and no entertainment higher than 'The Simpsons.' The old Robert Crumb poster hanging up in the Joynt comes to mind. The husband, staring out the window at the rain tells his wife in the large cushioned chair, "Let's see what's on t.v." She responds, "Why bother?" The title of the piece: "DESPAIR." Only for me it goes more like, "Let's get out of bed and get out there and write, create something you can be proud of or simply feel the warming rays of the Calif. sun on your upturned face." My responce to my optimistic cajoling, "Why bother." Is it that bad? Undoubtedly, no. If we can't slip into depths of dissatisfaction, uninspiration, and nonmotivation, then what rights would we have left? It's probably not dis, un or non anything. It's probably this ridiculous work schedule, 2pm to 10pm. The entire day feels choked off. The morning doesn't seem long enough and the night is relatively non-existent. Soon it'll change. Training will be over and if they don't give me the shift I want then I walk. I will not be shit on for $8.50 an hour as a temp. I'll go to Earthlink and get shit on for $10 an hour as a benefited employee. I'll see what game they play with me when somebody they just dropped $600 on to train hikes resolutely to the door. Actually, it would be over $600 since the temp. agency hands me only a fraction of the money per hour that TeleTech hands over to them. What a wonderful bullshit world the workers of america have allowed to be created under their feet. Hard to believe that their was a time when workers were standing up against the bosses, the rich, and dying in the fight to be treated like human beings. They died for an 8 hour work day. We're letting them take it away. They died to earn a living. We're letting them take that away. For a temp. agency, human beings are nothing more than specialized tools. Specialized tools bought at a discount. Who am I ranting at? Who doesn't know this shit? Who does nothing about this shit? Maybe I have it all wrong and it is the way that it is because people like it that way. They've certainly allowed it to happen to themselves either by simply bending over right out of highschool and allowing that ass of theirs to get fucked by the bosses strap-on, he is too diseased to have his own work, or they go to college where they can learn to pucker up and kiss ass. Education and vocation. Those seem to be the interlocked issues that have been strumming the strings of my brain as of late. One thing does not lead to another. My sad prediction: a liberal arts education will become completely valueless in under 20 years if it isn't already. if you are going to college for a liberal arts degree then STOP. If you went and got one already make a paper boat with your diploma and climb aboard before shit creek hits the rapids. |
